HALF DAY SIGHTSEEING TOUR
Our tour guide will pick you up from your hotel and your first destination of the sightseeing tour is Reunification Palace which was the base of Vietnamese General Ngo Dinh Diem until his death in 1963. It made its name in global history in 1975. A tank belonging to the North Vietnamese Army crashed through its main gate, ending the Vietnam War. Today, it's a must-visit for tourists in Ho Chi Minh City. The palace is like a time capsule frozen in 1975. You can see two of the original tanks used in the capture of the palace parked in the grounds. And next, you are going to visit The War Remnants Museum which has a wealth of images from the wars, the most moving being a gallery entitled 'Requiem' which is dedicated to Vietnamese and foreign journalists and photographers who perished during the French and American conflicts. Saigon Notre Dame Cathedral was built between 1877 and 1880 by French colonists, and the stones used to create it were exported in its entirety from France. It is one of the most famous landmarks in Ho Chi Minh city, thanks to its special architecture, rich spirituality and oozing history. The impressive red bricks of the cathedral make it outstanding in the modern city that has been rapidly growing up. It was built by French colonists; thus, all the materials and decorations were imported from France. The outside of the buildings, for instance, was built totally of red bricks from Marseille without plastered or cemented.. Across from the Notre Dame Cathedral is The Central Post Office which was built between 1886 and 1891. It is another fine example of French architecture and is Vietnam's largest post office. One of the most interest places is Chinatown or Cholon, which directly translates to “Big Market”, was first established in the late 1700’s when a large number of Hoa, an ethnic Chinese minority residing in Vietnam, were forced from the nearby city of Bien Hoa. Over the next hundred years, the area continued to grow in size and population until it was eventually incorporated in 1879. Thien Hau Temple (Heaveanly Lady Temple) is also a must in your itinerary. The temple was built in 1760 and it is regarded as one of the oldest, largest and most beautiful Chinese pagodas in Ho Chi Minh city. Thien Hau Temple is a long-standing historical relic of significance in the religious life of the Chinese community in Saigon, Ho Chi Minh city, the temple was built in the characteristic style of the Chinese. It is dedicated to Thien Hau, the Lady of the Sea (“Tian Hou” as transcribed from the Chinese), who is also known as “Mazu”. This site has long played an important part in the religious life of Chinese community in Ho Chi Minh city for centuries. Thien Hau Temple was recognized as National Architectural Heritage Site in 1993. The final destination in the tour is Binh Tay Market, constructed by the French in the 1880s, is located in the centre of Vietnam’s largest Chinatown district. Unlike Ben Thanh Market in District 1, this market mainly serves the local population with its extensive range of fresh fruits, vegetables, poultry, meat and seafood from regions across Vietnam. Travellers can also find an assortment of handicrafts, lacquerware, and textiles that are sold in bulk, though goods are not varied compared to other (more touristy) markets in downtown Hanoi. Along with the interesting historical and cultural aspect of Cholon, Binh Tay market is great for experiencing the local lifestyle and sampling unique Vietnamese - Chinese delicacies. Return to your hotel. END OF TOUR.
